The city council rejected DEI programs and is now working on alternative measures for awarding city funds and contracts. 

Community advocates have urged Dallas to maintain its commitment to diversity, while city officials acknowledge the significant impact that losing federal funding would have on essential services such as housing and infrastructure. Under the executive order, the city can still promote classifications like veteran status, disability, and socioeconomic status.

Clarice, the city of Dallas risks losing $300 million in federal funding if it continues to award benefits or contracts based on race, gender or national origin. The advocates for racial equity urged the city to use caution. Now the federal government has mandated the elimination of these DEI programs, claiming they discriminate against. Wait for it. White people, Doctor George Mason, and a coalition of Dallas activists called out the Trump administration for requiring cities and school districts to end diversity and inclusion programs or lose federal funding. The Dallas City Council rejected these DEI programs at its June 25th meeting. We understand what this means for our city staff and elected officials. They are being held moral hostages. Last week, City Manager Kim Tolbert provided an update on the city's work to come up with alternative measures for awarding city funds and contracts. We find ourselves at a crossroads. Requiring responsibility and resolve community advocates Monday urged the city to continue to prioritize diversity despite the Trump administration's directive. Compliance with an unjust demand is not the same as righteousness. Dallas must show the nation that our values are not for sale, but former Dallas City Councilman Omar Narvaez explained the city must walk a tightrope. $311 million is a lot of money. It's not. It's you know, it's not just change. It's not something that the city can just all of a sudden find in the couch. Cushions. Narvaez says the city receives federal funding for everything from building and repairing roads and bridges to providing funding for housing. You're talking about we have our house population. That's some of the dollars that are used in order to help the rapid rehousing program. That's some of the dollars that are being used to help out folks that need it the most. We understand that they are being presented with a devil's bargain here. OK, and that $305 million. Is an important amount of money that will specifically go toward helping the very people we're defending? Leaders with faith commons have a meeting with the city manager Thursday and under the executive order, the city can still promote classifications like veteran disability and socioeconomic status.
