The Rural Fire Service is fighting a bushfire that is threatening homes on the NSW North Coast. The blaze at Kangaroo Creek Road in Coutts Crossing, is now back at watch and act level, after it escalated to an emergency warning.

Authorities have issued an emergency warning for an out-of-control bushfire burning near Kangaroo Creek, south of Grafton in New South Wales. The fire is moving east to southeast, and strong winds are complicating firefighting efforts. Residents on Betong Drive, Middle Creek Road, and Lower Kangaroo Creek Road have been advised to shelter in place as it is now too late to leave safely. Firefighters and water-bombing aircraft are actively working to protect homes in the area. Severe weather warnings for damaging winds have also been issued for parts of New South Wales, further challenging emergency services.

Josh, the winds across the state not helping tonight. Yeah, they're certainly not helping, not across those bushfire-affected areas. As mentioned, that emergency warning is in place. So if you are in that vicinity, make sure you enact your bushfire survival plan right now. As Hugh just mentioned, it is too late to leave. And we are watching that fire with interest because it is still out of control as we go live to air tonight. Moving into those winds, you can see them across New South Wales today. In fact, they were gusting a short time ago at Sydney Harbour at 76 kilometres per hour. We've also seen severe weather warnings put in place for the Illawarra and South Coast for damaging winds, possibly over that 90-kilometre-per-hour mark. You can see here on the radar also some showers popping over the border from Victoria across southern parts of New South Wales. We haven't seen huge amounts, though, into the rain gauges. 27 degrees for Coffs this afternoon. We hit 25 in Tamworth, 23 in Dubbo and 16 degrees in Wagga. Across Western Sydney, we hit 26. In Richmond and Penrith, 26 in Parramatta and Bankstown and 25 across the city this afternoon. Of course, the long weekend is fast approaching.
