As we head into the midweek, a coastal storm will soak the mid-Atlantic states from Virginia to Pennsylvania with heavy rainfall. The coastal region will face the risk of rough surf and rip currents.

A coastal storm is affecting the mid-Atlantic region, bringing strong winds of up to 45 miles per hour and significant rainfall. Virginia Beach has recorded over two inches of rain in 48 hours, with some areas like Rodanthe seeing up to four to six inches. Flash flooding has been reported across Virginia, and additional rain is expected to move into Richmond, South Jersey, and Philadelphia, though rainfall in Philadelphia is expected to be lighter.

The storm is also causing dangerous coastal conditions, including rough surf and life-threatening rip currents. Rainfall totals are projected to reach four to eight inches in some areas, with coastal inundation of one to two feet possible at high tide. AccuWeather notes a low chance of tropical development, but the primary concerns remain wind, rain, and flooding.

Virginia Beach, 45 mile per hour wind gusts. We've got back up with monitoring winds in Nags Head at 45 miles per hour. So again, a smaller but mighty system here that is bringing strong wind, rain, coastal problems as well. And that's what we're gonna be following through the day today. We take it into Virginia Beach, 2.31 inches of rain over the last 48 hours is some of those rainfall totals I was talking about, the four to six inches around Rodanthe at times. And we'll also be tracking the rain back into Richmond at a four tenths of an inch. All morning we've been covering times of flash flooding. We've had heavy rain across Virginia. We'll continue to be tracking more rain into Richmond and the heavier rain conditions that continue after a brief break in Virginia Beach. There's more rain moving on through. So I do expect flash flood warnings to either be extended or additional areas that will be dealing with the flooding. South Jersey, nice to get the rain moving back on through. That eventually makes it to Philadelphia. It should be lighter, but we'll take any rain that we can get in parts of the Northeast. Let's follow here, the storm. You have the winds plotted with that as it just gets closer and closer to moving a little bit further inland, but does spend a good amount of time still over the water through the day today. Acura has been highlighting a low chance of tropical characteristics and development with this system. Regardless, we're talking about the wind, the rain, the coastal problems. Look at that, still heavy rain tonight into tomorrow morning. I bet we come in tomorrow morning with a lot of flood reports and even still flash flood warnings that could be going on. Wednesday, it will be windy. It will be cooler. It will be showery and wet with the rain back into South Jersey, Delaware, and Southeastern PA. Right now, our rainfall map here covers most of the Mid-Atlantic into parts of the Southeast with that four to eight inches of rain from Virginia Beach to Nags Head Ocean City, Maryland, closer to one to two inches of rain. And it's the rough surf. Not that this is a high time of a lot of beach goers, but this can be very dangerous, life-threatening rip currents. If you were to head into the water, gust along the coast anywhere from 35 to 45 miles per hour, an inundation at times of high tide could be one to two feet.
