Officials announced the suspect accused of fatally shooting conservative activist Charlie Kirk was arrested Thursday night. The suspect was identified as 22-year-old Tyler Robinson. "We got him," Utah Gov. Chris Cox said at the start of the news conference.

Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old from southern Utah, has been identified as the suspect in the shooting of Charlie Kirk. Law enforcement sources confirmed that Robinson was turned in to U.S. Marshals by his father after confessing to the crime. 

Authorities received over 7,000 tips from the public after releasing enhanced images of the suspect. Further details about the investigation and Robinson's statements to authorities are expected to be shared at an upcoming news conference.

This is a CBS News special report. I'm Gail King here in New York. Officials in Utah are about to hold a news conference on the Charlie Kirk assassination. This morning, President Trump said that he is very certain that the suspect in Wednesday's killing is under arrest. He also said that someone close to the suspect turned him in. As soon as they have that news conference, we will take it immediately live. But for now, let's go right to Carter Evans, who is in Utah. Carter, what can you tell us? What have you heard? Well, Gail, we are expecting this news conference to start any minute now. I'm watching off camera here to see when authorities start walking in. But here is what we know. CBS News has confirmed through multiple law enforcement sources that the name of the suspect is Tyler Robinson. He is 22 years old. So college age, just like authorities had said when they found that picture and first released that picture yesterday. We did get some clearer pictures yesterday that they had enhanced of this individual. And we're told that he confessed to his father. He lives in southern Utah, and that's where he confessed to his father and was apparently turned into U.S. Marshals. That is the latest. As far as details about how this all went down, what he has said to authorities about what occurred, has he confessed to them? We're hoping to find that out when this news conference begins in just a few minutes. We do know that they had a tremendous amount of video of this individual. They were able to get that out to the public. They had 7,000 tips come in on the tip line that they were following up on. But in the end, it appears that this individual turned himself in with his father.
