Tyler Robinson, the suspect in the shooting death of Charlie Kirk, appeared virtually from jail for his second court hearing. During the hearing, the judge confirmed that Robinson's defense attorneys are authorized to represent him and noted that Robinson's team will not waive his right to a preliminary hearing, where prosecutors must present evidence to proceed to trial.

Robinson's legal team requested additional time to review the extensive discovery materials in the case, resulting in the scheduling of another conference hearing. The judge also reminded those involved of the importance of fairness and civility, emphasizing that Robinson is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

He appeared virtually from jail while he did not appear on camera or speak. We got to hear from his legal counsel for the first time and we want to get right to CBS News legal reporter Katrina Kaufman. Katrina, thank you for your time. What happened during today's hearing? So essentially, first, the judge affirmed that his defense attorneys can in fact represent him in this case, and then they said that they don't want to waive his right to what's called a preliminary hearing in Utah. That's when the prosecution has to present evidence to the judge to prove that they can move forward with a trial. But what his team asked for was. A little more time because there's going to be voluminous discovery that they're getting in this case. They need to wrap their heads around it, so that's why there's going to be another one of these conference hearings on October 30th. Robinson will be present. The judge also significantly made a statement here, just given the tenor of everything around this trial about how people need to be fair in this case, how Tyler Robinson is presumed innocent until every one of these charges is proven beyond a reasonable doubt and he asked for people to treat this with civility.
