The man was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and suspicious bag. There were no reports of shots fired or injuries to officers or the public. The king and the queen consort were not in the palace at the time of the arrest. Chief Superintendent Joseph McDonald says officers remain at the scene and further inquiries are ongoing. Police understood the lockdown has since been lifted, but investigations do continue.
