Mexican authorities allege Chavez Jr. worked for the Sinaloa cartel and expect him to face charges for arms trafficking and organized crime, though the case is still under development.

In a late Saturday interview with local news, Chavez Jr.'s lawyer Ruben Fernando Benitez said prosecutors have no evidence against the boxer. Benitez could not be reached for further comment. Mexican prosecutors claim Chavez Jr. worked as a henchman for the Sinaloa cartel, labeled a terrorist group by the U.S. earlier this year. His lawyer and family deny these accusations. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said she expects Chavez Jr. to face charges for arms trafficking and organized crime, with prosecutors still building the case.
