Across the ocean, President Trump warned Hamas to accept the deal or there would be hell to pay. Then, on Friday, a qualified response from Hamas. It had agreed to release all the hostages and surrender governing power in Gaza. But once further negotiations on some of the other terms in the proposal and made no mention of laying down arms, a key demand. But it was good enough for President Trump. Everybody was unified in wanting this war to end and seeing peace in the Middle East. And we're very close to achieving that. He ordered Israel to stop bombing Gaza immediately. Not all the guns went silent. But for Palestinians, the mere idea that an end could be in sight has brought overwhelming relief. It feels like going from hell to heaven, said Umm Fawad Saleh. And for Israelis whose loved ones are still in Hamas captivity, like Vicky Cohen, the mother of hostage Nimrod, there is hope and trepidation. Maybe soon I will be able to hug my son. But also a fear that something will get wrong, an obstacle that will ruin the negotiation. With talk set to begin tomorrow, trust on both sides is in short supply.
