Despite her retirement, Jenkinson will remain involved at Estia, volunteering a few days a week to help organise activities for residents. Known for her passion for nursing and active lifestyle, she encourages others to find enjoyment in daily life, no matter how small the activity.

I mean, when I started nursing, it was tuberculosis was rampant around. Polio was around, and I nursed people in iron lungs when I was 18. She went on to work as a midwife and in orthopaedics, surgery and all aspects of general care. Seven decades on, her passion and commitment to the job hasn't wavered. I think I like the challenge of it and the variety of it, you know, because one day is not the same. In her spare time, the grandmother of three likes to keep fit, swimming 18 laps of the pool every day and playing tennis. But I love my garden. I'm a gardener. Though Jo is finishing up here to enjoy a well-earned retirement, it won't be goodbye just yet. She's already agreed to volunteer a couple of days a week to help organise activities for the residents. The activities are very good, actually, because even for my brain sometimes...
