The mission, involving more than 45 ships from 44 countries, aims to deliver humanitarian aid and highlight the situation of Palestinians in Gaza. Participants have undergone training and are aware of the risks, including threats from Israeli authorities to treat them as terrorists. The flotilla departed from Barcelona, stopped in Tunis, and plans to reach Gaza to provide aid and raise international awareness.

In Tunis, dozens of activists are attending their last training session on how to break the Israeli blockade. They are set to join the Sumud flotilla and sail for Gaza, among them some familiar faces. It has been a duty for us as the Mandela family to continue to be the voice of oppressed nations and the most vulnerable across the globe. And this is why I am here. Mayor Mandela joins a number of international personalities, politicians and activists, including Greta Thunberg, American actor Susan Sarandon, French actress Adèle Haenel and French politician Thomas Porte, to name but a few. Despite Israeli threats to treat flotilla participants as terrorists, they are all determined to get their message heard and reach the people of Gaza. Dozens of people are dying of hunger. It's absolutely unacceptable. Our aim is to reach Gaza. The Israeli government threatens to imprison us, but it's no surprise from a government behaving like terrorists. More than 45 ships are now part of the mission, with delegations from 44 countries across the world. In order to increase their diplomatic protection, nationalities are spread across the boats, ensuring that each crew will get equal treatment. After a short turnaround because of bad weather, the flotilla has left Barcelona and will stop in Tunis on Saturday. The boats should reach Gaza mid-September, where they hope to break the Israeli blockade, deliver humanitarian aid and draw global attention to the plight of Palestinians.
