Even as conditions inside Gaza get worse, humanitarian aid meant for the Strip is facing significant delays and some international NGOs say they're being prevented from delivering life-saving supplies. Here's a look at what's happening with one shipment in Buenos Aires.

More than 43 tonnes of humanitarian aid destined for Gaza are currently held in a warehouse in Buenos Aires, Argentina, awaiting authorization from the Argentinian foreign ministry. The aid, organized by an NGO led by Enrique Piñeiro and intended to be delivered by the Red Crescent Society, includes essential supplies for families facing famine conditions in Gaza.

The delay has been attributed to both bureaucratic hurdles and possible political considerations, as Argentina under President Javier Milei is a strategic ally of Israel and the United States. While the Argentinian government claims private organizations are free to donate aid, Piñeiro and others argue that specific restrictions are in place for Gaza, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis as hospitals and civilians face severe shortages.

I'm here in this warehouse in Buenos Aires and this box that you can see right here is aid that is meant to be delivered to Gaza. But until now Argentina's foreign ministry has not authorised this delivery. It was meant to be taken by the Red Crescent Society. There is around 42 tonnes of aid right here. Enrique Piñeiro is the director of the NGO which wants to deliver the aid. He says the government of Javier Millet is not giving help in Gaza the importance it deserves. We have 43 tonnes of aid. It's basically survival. Each box is 15 days survival for family, for members. And for some reason the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is not signing a clearance that apparently is requested by Israel. It's a famine. The United Nations has officially recognised it's a famine that could have been prevented by the way. But it's kind of aggravating out of nothing, just bureaucratically. Enrique Piñeiro has delivered humanitarian assistance through Solidair to countries like Sudan, Ukraine and even Gaza in the past. He says what is happening now has never happened before. Last November volunteers came here and packaged all of these items. There's some protein and carbohydrates among other things to help the people who are struggling right now with one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world. But some say that bureaucracy but also ideological reasons are preventing this aid from getting to Gaza. Argentina under Millet is a strategic ally of Israel and the United States. He's backed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's actions in Gaza. By now I would think it's political. It's been too long and it's a kind of a desperate situation, so... Al Jazeera contacted the Argentinian government and they say private organisations can donate to whoever they want. But Piñeiro says this isn't the case where Gaza is concerned. The ongoing delays with aid distributions are ongoing as hospitals face critical shortages and people continue to go for days without food. Argentinian agencies say that the ongoing problem with aid distribution is not only lack of aid but also that the mechanisms to distribute it have become systematically obstructed.
