A 32-year-old woman was shot in the back during a road rage incident near South Hawkins Avenue and Dillia in Akron. According to police, the incident involved a confrontation between the woman, her husband, and another driver in a gray Mercedes, who claimed self-defense.

The suspect reported feeling threatened and fired at the couple, stating she feared for her safety. Authorities have identified the suspect and the vehicle, but no charges have been filed as detectives continue to investigate the conflicting accounts. The injured woman is expected to recover, though the incident has caused significant distress for all involved.

This intersection in Akron is part of an ongoing investigation following a road rage incident that led to a shooting. I'm Remy Murray to explain. A 32-year-old woman can be heard crying for help after the woman's dad called 9-1-1 and said his daughter had been shot in the back during an isolated road rage incident near South Hawkins Avenue in Dillia just before 4 Saturday afternoon. My daughter just came in she just came from Hawkins but somebody shot her. According to Lieutenant Michael Murphy the shooting victim and her husband who drove separately that day told police the suspect was driving recklessly. They reported that there was a person that was driving in a gray Mercedes who was just really driving erratically honking their horn and out of traffic and really was causing like a road rage type of incident. Meanwhile the suspect who authorities say they have identified along with the vehicle in question called 9-1-1 and said she was acting in self-defense so she shot at the couple because she says she feared for her safety. The man jumped out again on me and I jumped out and drew my weapon. The man started walking backwards like he was going to his car to do something and I shot his window his back window. As the situation kept escalating the suspect says she also shot at the man's wife because she thought the woman was going to run her over. So Murphy says no charges have been filed yet because of the conflicting narratives. Our detectives are working to comb through evidence speak with witnesses and analyze whether or not the suspects account of this incident incident is actually credible. Meantime Murphy says the 32 year old is expected to be okay even though this has caused a lot of damage both physically and emotionally to everyone involved including witnesses like John Cornelius. I know that neighbor and I've been in that neighborhood plenty of times and I felt like it was just like a one-off you know one of these things where people just lose their temper they lose their cool and they do something stupid. At this time Murphy says he's not sure when those possible charges could be filed. For News 5 I'm Remy Murray reporting.
