As today, tens of thousands of mourners, including President Donald Trump, gathered in Glendale, Arizona to honor the life and legacy of Charlie Kirk. They packed into State Farm Stadium, home to the NFL's Arizona Cardinals, and those who didn't fit in that stadium filled a nearby arena. More than 200,000 people in all, many lining up before dawn, had registered in hopes of remembering Kirk, a charismatic young conservative killed while speaking to college students earlier this month. The security is, you might imagine, extremely tight, as the event is part memorial and part rally for Kirk's ideas. And the speaker lineup is on par with a state funeral, including President Trump. CBS's Chris Van Cleave is there for us tonight, and he leads us off in Glendale, Arizona. Chris, good evening. Tony, it's really a conservative who's who. Many of the speakers likening this to a religious revival, and Kirk, a martyr. The most poignant moments are playing out as we speak. Kirk's widow, Erica, is addressing the crowd. A crowd overflowing the biggest venue in Arizona gathered to remember Charlie Kirk. He showed respect and compassion for everyone. Local police expected 100,000 or more would try to attend the memorial service, far more than State Farm Stadium hosting the event could hold. With security rivaling a Super Bowl, lines were long as the crowd began gathering around At midnight, 11 hours before the event was scheduled to begin, Elizabeth White drove from Santa Barbara, California. I think we're all going through the same thing, and so I wanted to be with others as well. So just, you know, I feel disconnected in some way, so this makes me feel connected again. The list of speakers included several cabinet members and White House officials. He had wisdom, an uncanny amount of wisdom for a man as young as he was. Wisdom that sometimes it takes a lifetime to accumulate. He had it in just 31 years. Kirk was just 31 years old when he was assassinated during an appearance on a college campus in Utah September 10th. 22-year-old Tyler Robinson is now charged with his murder and could face the death penalty. Kirk had been a mainstay on the campaign trail. He energized college-age voters, building a huge social media following around supporting President Trump. His statements were not without controversy, but Kirk showed a willingness to debate anyone. That was especially important to Levi Smith, who drove 12 hours from Colorado to be here. I might not even agree with everything he said, but nobody ever deserves to have violence put upon them because of the things that they say. Violence? Speech is not violence. Smith sparked widespread heartbreak and outrage, especially on the right. We will prevail over the forces of wickedness and evil. They cannot imagine what they have awakened. His death also left two small children without a father and a widow who has vowed to carry on his legacy. And in fact, this has very much been a call to action to honor Kirk's legacy. We saw that with a drive to register voters as they were coming into the arena today. The ceremony now in its fourth hour. Tony, we're waiting to hear from President Trump.
