Increased security measures are also in place around key governmental sites, including the White House and the vice president's residence.

Local officials in the city have stated that no credible threats have been identified so far. However, they remain vigilant in preparing for potential political disturbances similar to those experienced after a previous election. The Metropolitan Police Department is operating at full capacity, implementing 12-hour shifts for all officers to ensure public safety in Washington D.C.

This is one of several businesses here in downtown Washington that are boarded up, that even before any votes have been counted, are concerned about the potential for unrest here in the coming days. We've seen large fencing go up around the White House and the vice president's home. And look, local officials at this point here in Washington have said they haven't received information about any credible threats, but they are preparing not just for protests, but even for the potential for political violence and rioting like what we saw after the 2020 election. Metropolitan Police, D.C.'s police department, they are fully activated already and they will be through the week, meaning every officer in the city is going to be working 12-hour shifts to make sure people are safe here in the nation's capital.
