The arrival of these senior officials suggests an intensified effort to reach an agreement, with the U.S. delegation reportedly seeking a swift resolution. However, questions remain about the implementation of any potential deal, especially if all parties are not fully aligned.

The latest we've heard is that today, so to speak, the big guns are coming. President Donald Trump's envoy, Steve Whitkoff, and his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, are expected to land today at the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, where these talks are underway. And similarly, in a surprise, we found out late last night that the Qatari prime minister, Al Thani, is also expected to come. Israel is sending, I believe also today, although that's not yet been confirmed, Prime Minister Netanyahu's right-hand man, Ron Dermer, who is to represent Israel in these talks. Now, it's unclear. There has been some speculation that it may mean that these discussions have really gone nowhere, and that that is the reason that the more responsible, so to speak, adults in the room are having to arrive. But there is a sense, at least from some of Donald Trump's statements yesterday, that this latest dispatch of his top people may mean that they are just ready to demand some kind of an agreement. The Americans seem much less taken by the idea of all the details that either Hamas or Israel, frankly, want to work out and simply want to be able to declare a deal. That does lead to questions about how it would be implemented, certainly if neither side is really on board. But it seems that Steve Wyckoff and Jared Kushner at least expect that their presence is going to lead to a major announcement, even possibly in the coming days.
