Museveni accepted the nomination during a speech at the party's delegate conference in Kampala, expressing gratitude for the continued trust placed in him by the party.

Museveni has been in power since 1986 and has previously secured constitutional changes to remove presidential term limits and the age cap. If successful in the upcoming election, he would approach nearly five decades in leadership. His main challenger is expected to be Bobi Wine, who also ran in the previous election, which was marked by violence and allegations of vote rigging.

And that's why the economy of Uganda has recovered. And as I speak today, we have gone through five phases. Museveni's main opponent in the last election was singer-turned-politician Bobby Wine. Wine has also declared his candidacy for next year's poll. He lost the 2021 election to Museveni in a vote marred by violence and allegations of vote rigging.
