Fox 4's Peyton Maye joins us in studio with how Democratic leaders are pushing back. Peyton? Good morning, Lauren. The president is calling for troops to Illinois and Oregon. Leaders in those northern states are trying to use the court system to block the deployment. Now, the mayor of Chicago has also signed an executive order creating ice-free zones by prohibiting federal immigration agents from using steel property for enforcement. Governor Abbott took a photo of soldiers with riot shields boarding military planes. He spoke about deploying around 400 troops on Fox's Hannity last night. Abbott says the troops will be safeguarding ice officials and other federal officials in both Illinois and Oregon. Officials in those states say military intervention isn't needed and federal involvement is making the situation worse. Still, Governor Abbott says there's chaos in those places. Yes, and that is the president has the constitutional responsibility to enforce the laws of the United States and those laws include the immigration laws. And the president has the authority to call up National Guard to assist in enforcing those laws. And that's exactly what the president is doing and what Texas is doing. A Trump-appointed federal judge blocked the president's plan to send National Guard troops to Oregon a second time, and Illinois officials filed suit to block the deployment on Monday. Now, Trump says he could take a stronger approach if courts continue to block his plans, opting for invoking the Insurrection Act that would allow the president to deploy U.S. military members or federalized state National Guard members if there's an insurrection against the country. The Trump administration has until midnight tomorrow to respond to the Illinois lawsuit. A hearing is already set for Thursday and we'll continue to keep you updated on how this case progresses.
