The initiative, started by two mothers, encourages community members to donate diapers or make monetary contributions at Southgate Centre, where donations are collected and picked up by the food bank.

The organizers highlight the importance of the drive, noting that some families face the difficult choice between buying diapers or food. Community support has been strong, with regular contributions from a local moms group and other donors, and every diaper collected is intended to help families in need.

So today we're starting our third annual 20k diaper drive for Edmonton's Food Bank. This is a great way to give back to our community and help families in need. So we collect all diapers here at our location in Southgate Centre, just upstairs. And the food bank will come pick up from their big food bank boxes, we usually have three of them sitting up front at our store there, and they will take them to their location up north. Iris approached me a couple years ago and said that she had this crazy idea to try and collect 20,000 diapers, and would I help her, and I said absolutely, I'm in. And we did it, twice, and now we're trying to do it a third time. Iris is a mom of three kids and I'm a mom of two kids, and neither of us can imagine having to make the choice between diapers and food. And I know that that's a very real choice for some families in Edmonton. And so if there's something we can do to contribute to give back to help our neighbours in need, and collect diapers to help Edmonton's food bank, we really want to do that. A lot of our moms, we have a free moms group in the store, they will come every week and they'll just drop off whatever they have sitting around at home when their babies outgrow diapers. We've had people come in, just seeing our signage, and they're making monetary donations. And so we get all these people coming in, and they'll just come in, you know, bringing boxes of diapers to help support. You know what, sometimes I think people just need to be aware, or be asked, and they help. And for me and Iris, I know it's just, it's so heartwarming to be able to say we're doing this and have such incredible support, and have people come out and give. And we couldn't do it without our communities that help us out to do this. But really, we know that ultimately every single diaper helps a family in need.
