While many Republicans are inclined to back the cuts, some have expressed reservations about the impact on rural communities and longstanding aid programs such as PEPFAR. The president has intensified his campaign by warning he will not endorse any Republican who opposes the package, as the Senate faces an imminent deadline to vote on the measure.

Senate Republicans officially have less than a week to pass President Trump's cuts to multiple federal agencies. Meanwhile, Mr. Trump is applying increased pressure to members of his own party to push them through or risk losing his support. CBS News Congressional Correspondent Caitlin Huey Burns joins us now from Capitol Hill with more on this. Bright and pink this Monday, Caitlin, great to see you. Remind us what the Senate is voting on specifically this week. Hey, Errol, it's great to see you. Well, a little schoolhouse rock for our audience here. Reminder that Congress approves funds for use of federal projects, and then the president actually has the power to ask them to rescind funds, approval of funds that they've already approved, if he wants. And that can go through a process that only needs majority support in the Senate. So a little tricky parliamentarian strategy for you there. So basically, the president is asking for $9.5 billion back. This is essentially those doge cuts that we've been covering for the past six months. That's essentially those doge cuts would be made into law, approved by Congress. If you've been wondering where Congress has been in all this, this is where they come into play. A majority of that is for foreign aid, Errol, but also portions of it are for public broadcasting. And that has obviously been the subject of ire for the president. He's gone after NPR, PBS, and the like, but you do have some Republicans up here on Capitol Hill who are concerned about those cuts being asked, those cuts being asked to be made to public broadcasting, because a lot of them represent rural areas. And in those rural areas, public broadcasting is the only major source of information, especially in cases of emergencies like the one we just saw in Texas recently. So that is a subject of debate among some lawmakers up here on the Hill. And so, Caitlin, does the GOP have support as it is right now to codify these cuts? I mean, the president wouldn't be acting with this pressure campaign if it wasn't decisive. Yeah, and you mentioned that pressure campaign, Errol. That's a really important point. He's been taking to his social media platforms to essentially try to persuade these Republicans to come on board, saying he will not endorse any Republican who doesn't vote for this package and anyone who is raising questions about support for public broadcasting. And you see that on your screen there. So there's certainly a twisting of the arms here. Congress has until Friday to approve this rescission of funds so the deadline is fast approaching. The clock is ticking. By and large, Republicans up here want to support these cuts, but there are also some concerns about some of the specific cuts. For example, I mentioned foreign aid. There are cuts to the PEPFAR program, long-running AIDS prevention program, that were part of those cuts to USAID. There's some lawmakers up here that want to shore up that program and make sure there aren't cuts to that program. Susan Collins is one of those who has raised concerns about that. So there are little bits and pieces of this that they're trying to work out the details here. And then you also have conservative Republicans who are very anxious to codify these cuts into law, some even arguing that they don't go far enough.
