President Trump is scheduled to deliver a prime time address from the White House, where he is expected to discuss his administration's actions on immigration, tariffs, and economic policy. White House officials indicate that the president will highlight accomplishments from the past 11 months and present his agenda for the coming years.

Despite White House claims of progress, recent polling shows declining public approval of the president's handling of the economy, inflation, and immigration. The address will be broadcast live, with CBS News providing coverage and analysis following the speech.

We turn now to the White House and our Nancy Cordes, who is looking ahead to the president's prime time address. Nancy. Major, good to see you. A short time ago, the president told reporters on the tarmac at Joint Base Andrews that he is looking forward to talking tonight about the mess that he inherited, in his words, and the fact that this administration has done a great job. Essentially, White House officials say that he is going to lay out what he thinks he has accomplished over the past 11 months. So we'll probably hear a lot about the border. We'll hear about tariffs and other economic measures. And then he will lay out what he wants to do in the next three years or so. This is a format that the president doesn't usually avail himself of. He generally likes to speak in front of large crowds, but he can also feed off of those crowds and sometimes go off message. In a more scripted, formal address like this one that is going to be taking place from the diplomatic room and delivered live tonight, there is more of a likelihood that he will stay on message, they hope, and deliver specifically the message that he believes that the economy is getting better and will continue to get better in the years to come. And to that point, Nancy, I'm sure you pick this up much more than I do, but even in my passing interactions with those close at working in the White House, there is a frustration that they believe that they've done a lot this year, but they see the decline in the poll numbers, particularly in evaluations of the president's dealing with the economy and inflation, even down on immigration, and they feel like they've got to do something to shake up perceptions that they don't believe fit with what they perceive as the accomplished reality. Right, and part of the challenge is that the president has been insisting that inflation is getting better, that prices are going down, that people have more money in their pockets, and the reality is that that may end up being the case in the years to come, but it is not the case right now. Inflation is at 3%, which is the same as it was when he took office. Yes, gas prices are down a few cents, but nothing that is going to measurably change the reality for most Americans. Unemployment has ticked up, in fact. So it'll be interesting to see if he sticks with that message tonight, that things have already started to improve, or if he makes the case that some of these tariffs that he has imposed are going to pay off in the future, and that Americans just need to sit tight and wait to see the results of the policies that he has implemented so far.
