They're not supposed to do law enforcement actions, and that's part of the dispute between the Republican president and these democratically controlled cities who don't want the ICE agents here. The governor of Illinois, J.B. Pritzker, says it's actually the presence of all of those federal forces that has intensified incidents like ones that have happened here at this protest site. It's very quiet today, but it livens up on the weekends, and police have fired rubber pellets, they've fired pepper gas, and that's caused a number of clashes between them and protesters in an intensifying standoff between the federal government and local officials here in Illinois.
