Amid the government shutdown, the Trump administration is using available funds to make sure the men and women of the U.S. military continue to receive their paychecks.

Amid a prolonged government shutdown, President Trump announced that he has directed Secretary of War Pete Hegseth to use all available funds to pay military personnel. This directive was made public following concerns that troops would miss their scheduled pay due to the Senate's failure to approve spending legislation.

The announcement, made on Truth Social, emphasized the administration's efforts to prioritize military pay despite ongoing political disagreements in Congress. Speaker Mike Johnson and GOP strategist Chet Love criticized Democratic leaders for their handling of the shutdown, while also highlighting the administration's use of alternative funding measures to support federal programs. The situation remains unresolved as both parties continue to debate the path forward.

The government shutdown now stretching into the third week. If the government doesn't open, federal workers run the risk of not receiving their paychecks. Over the weekend, President Trump announced he's directing the Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, to make sure our military troops are paid with all available funds on October 15th. The president making the announcement on Truth Social, writing in part, if nothing is done because of leader Chuck Schumer and the Democrats, our brave troops will miss the paychecks they are rightfully due on October 15th. That is why I am using my authority as Commander in Chief to direct our Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, to use all available funds to get our troops paid on October 15th. The move comes after troops prepared to go without pay following the Senate's failure to approve spending legislation last week. Speaker Mike Johnson says the Republican GOP has voted several times to pay federal workers and military troops, while Democrats stick with Schumer on the shutdown. Here's the speaker earlier on why Democrats continue to play politics. Democrats are playing a political game. Unlike 2013, the Democrat Party is utterly rudderless. There have been times in the past where there were shutdowns. Democrats today have no leader, no vision, no direction. The party is at their lowest point in decades in terms of public opinion polls. And so they threw this Hail Mary pass. Chuck Schumer knows this. He reads the polls religiously. He knows his party is furious with him for doing the right thing back in March when he helped to pass a clean CR and averted government shutdown. It was the right thing to do. He said so himself emphatically on the Senate floor. And that bill he supported is nearly identical to what we're offering today. The only thing that's changed is his personal political calculation. Joining us now to discuss GOP strategist Chet Love. Chet, where's the end? Both sides seem pretty dug in right now. I think it's ridiculous that we've gone 30 years in this country without having passed a actual budget. Because in a real serious war right now with China, we have huge issues around the A.I. race. We need to be focusing on energy and national security. And yet we have Democrats continuing to pay politics and Republicans as well in terms of getting this budget passed. And now the government shut down. We shouldn't be seeing government shutdowns. Chet, you know, I think it's I don't want to say funny or maybe ironic. You have the president of the United States over in the Middle East today bringing peace to the region that's been at war for 3000 years. But back at home, you've got a government shutdown and a stalemate and potentially troops not getting paid. Now, the president is trying to be as creative as possible so that our troops will get paid beyond October 15th. He's used tariff monies to fund the WIC program so that mothers can feed their babies. But Democrats are dug in. And Chuck Schumer just over the weekend was using this line, as was Hakeem Jeffries. Republicans have majority in the House, in the Senate and at the White House. This is their government shutdown. And I am worried this message might be resonating with the American public who don't realize that there needs to be 60 votes in the U.S. Senate to open the government and that Republicans are short five of those votes. And we've certainly seen polling around the country that's to that effect. And every time there's a government shutdown, the party in power typically does get blamed for it. But I have a message here for the Democratic Party. You guys are losing this messaging because the American people understand that President Trump is continuing to put Americans first. You have President Trump using Title 10 to reallocate funds to make sure that troops are being paid on the 15th, protecting national security. Democrats are opposed to that. Again, President Trump stopping 200 deaths a day from fentanyl overdoses by designating these drug traffickers as terrorists. Democrats are opposed to that. So what you've seen again and again is that President Trump is continuing to fight for Americans and fight for national security, while Democrats continue to oppose it. I just don't think that's going to work in the midterms at the end of the day. I think America sees through that, and they understand that President Trump and Republicans are fighting for them. When he went to Egypt, there was a line for world leaders to take their picture with President Trump that looped around the corner, if you want to know where the president's standing is amongst the world leaders right now. And by having a secure Middle East to stop the unfortunate incidents that are going on in the Middle East today, it protects America's interest. And so you saw this with Joe Biden and getting in all these unnecessary wars. America is happy today. The world is happy today. The killing is going to stop. The hostages are returned back to their families, which is incredibly important. And I don't think that anyone should say anything but congratulations and thank you to President Trump.
