Hurricane Humberto is set to impact Bermuda as it passes to the west of the island Tuesday. Humberto will gradually weaken over the next few days, but will likely grow in size bringing the potential for tropical storm force winds to Bermuda late Tuesday.

A tropical storm watch has been issued for Bermuda as Hurricane Humberto moves through the Atlantic. Meteorologists describe Humberto as a high-intensity tropical cyclone, but forecasts indicate the storm will weaken and pass far enough from Bermuda to avoid major weather impacts.

Despite the limited direct effects, large ocean waves and dangerous rip currents are expected in Bermuda and along the eastern seaboard. Authorities advise caution around coastal waters due to these hazardous conditions.

It is a nasty hurricane with all kinds of symmetry going on here. So when you see something like this, you know you have a very high-end tropical cyclone among the most intense that you can achieve in this part of the world. Look, we're not expecting that. It is going to be weakening over the coming days, and there is Bermuda. This split the uprights, didn't it, between Bermuda and Hatteras pretty much right down the middle, and that's good news. And by the way, that's Imelda rushing off to the south. We'll worry about that in the coming days and see if it does indeed impact Bermuda. But right now, it doesn't seem like that Umberto is gonna be close enough to bring significant impacts to Bermuda here. Nearly all of the models, the operational runs, and their ensemble members have a track that roughly take Umberto like that, which is far enough away to really have not much of a weather impact. But certainly oceanically, we're gonna see giant waves in Bermuda. And I might add up and down the eastern seaboard next week as well with, I'm sure, big time rip current risk as well, Alex. So the waters are gonna be dangerous along the east coast, even though Umberto is that far away.
