Tropical Storm Lorenzo has formed in the eastern Atlantic. Lorenzo is forecast to gradually strengthen and could get close to hurricane status by the middle of the week. Lorenzo will not be a threat to the U.S. as the storm will remain out in the open Atlantic.

Tropical Storm Lorenzo has formed in the central Atlantic, with the National Hurricane Center reporting maximum sustained winds of 70 miles per hour. Forecasts indicate that the storm is expected to weaken over time, with some models predicting an unusual looping track that may bring it back toward its point of origin.

Meteorologists noted that Lorenzo is currently a lopsided system and that its future path remains uncertain. Another weather wave has emerged off the coast of Africa, but it is not expected to develop significantly in the near term.
