Tropical Storm Jerry has formed in the Atlantic, with meteorologists monitoring its potential to strengthen into a Category 1 hurricane. The storm's center is expected to stay just northeast of the Leeward Islands, reducing the likelihood of a direct hit.

Despite this, the region could experience gusty winds of up to 60 miles per hour and rainfall amounts ranging from one to four inches. The AccuWeather real impact scale rates Jerry's impact as less than one for the British Virgin Islands and northern Leeward Islands, suggesting manageable effects, though some flooding and power outages are possible.

We have a lot to talk about in the tropics. A tropical storm, Jerry, by the way, has formed. So again, we have a little more interest on this frontal system that's going to deposit itself off the southeast coast. But in the short term, Jerry is with us, a tropical storm named around midday today. Absolutely, and as we head throughout the next 24 hours, it does look like Jerry could intensify just enough to reach Category 1 hurricane status. Now, the good news is the core of this storm will stay barely northeast of the Leeward Islands. Still a sideswipe here. We'll see gusts of wind between 40 and our AccuWeather local storm axis 60 miles per hour. Even if this is a hurricane by this time, the center of the storm in the eyewall would be northeast of the islands. That's right, and that is also going to bring some rainfall to this region, mainly one to two inches. But once again, wouldn't be surprised if we see a rain gauge out here topping four inches during this timeline. And this storm will have an AccuWeather real impact scale rating for hurricanes of less than one, so a manageable impact there for the British Virgin Islands and the northern Leewards. But still, some impacts are in the cards. That's right. Some flooding, some power outages will be possible. That's what we'll be tracking for that.
