A new tropical depression will bring some impacts to the western coast of Mexico.

A tropical depression has formed off the west coast of Mexico in the Pacific Ocean. Meteorologists expect it to strengthen into a tropical storm, with the next name on the list being Mario, and possibly reach category one hurricane status.

Although the system is not projected to make direct landfall, areas highlighted in yellow on forecast maps could see impacts such as flooding downpours, mudslides, gusty winds, and rip currents. The overall impact scale for Mexico is currently rated as less than one, indicating minor effects. Additional tropical activity is being monitored in both the Pacific and Atlantic, but no immediate threats to the U.S. are anticipated.

It's tropical depression as of five p.m. Eastern time, four p.m. Central time here. Now let's take a look at where we think that this storm system goes and our eye path here. So we're at tropical depression status. We think by tomorrow evening we do get to a tropical storm. Next late name on the list is Mario. Then we do think we get to a category one hurricane by Sunday. But you'll notice we're not talking about any direct hits to land. Now, this doesn't mean that we're not talking about impacts. Everyone highlighted in yellow here, you'll be looking at some impacts from the storm overall on our acu other real impact scale. It's a less than one for Mexico, but this does mean that you could see some flooding downpour, some mud slides, especially just considering the topography of this region. And then, of course, there's gusty winds, rip current risks, things like that to talk about. Now there's another area that we are tracking here in the Pacific. But then we head over to the Atlantic. We have two areas we're keeping an eye on. You'll notice we do have tropical waves in the central Atlantic, but the conditions are just not right for them to strengthen right now. So there's two areas we're watching low chance of development closer to home. And then there's tropical wave. We're eyeing that maybe this does get a chance to develop into a tropical depression or tropical storm. The right now we're not talking about impacts to the U. S.
