Emergency services in Southern California have increased staffing and resources in anticipation of heightened fire risks. Recent brush fires, including one near Laguna Niguel, have prompted quick responses from fire crews, and officials are urging residents to remain prepared for possible evacuations. State and federal agencies, including the governor's office and FEMA, have deployed additional equipment and personnel to support local efforts. Authorities emphasize that fire risks now persist year-round due to changing wind patterns and ongoing dry conditions.

Triple-digit temperatures expected in multiple states in West

We're here at Fire Station 88, where things are pretty quiet this morning. This is one of the staging areas for the city's response to this heat wave. We're talking temperatures possibly reaching in some areas 110 degrees. They will peak later on this morning. They will continue through Friday. As you mentioned, fire is the biggest concern. We're told about 100 additional staff members have been brought in. Already yesterday there was a brush fire. It unfolded about 60 miles South of here in Laguna Niguel, where flames came very close to several neighborhoods before crews were able to quickly gain the upper hand. Southern California, I think it's easy to say, and what could best be described as fire fatigue. You had the Canyon fire just a few weeks ago. Of course, the LA fires back in January. I spoke with Fire Captain Adam Van Gerpen, who's urging people to be on standby, have go bags, and be prepared. There's no such thing as a brush fire season. We get our heaviest winds, our Santa Ana wind conditions in October, but we're seeing these fast erratic winds year round. And the state is also prepared. The governor sending in reinforcements, including 10 additional engines like the yellow one you see behind me. FEMA is also positioned here, including their search and rescue teams. Vlad, we're told it's all out of an abundance of caution.
