The strike against Air Canada appears to be over. The union representing the nearly 10,000 flight attendants on the picket line says they reached a tentative agreement early this morning. Mediators worked for hours overnight and into this morning to reach a deal. The work stoppage rattled Air Canada for three days during this summer travel season. CBS News correspondent Tom Hanson is live at LaGuardia Airport in New York City with the latest on this. Tom, good morning. So now that this agreement is reached, what happens next? Hey there, Michael. Good morning to you. Well, of course, we're gonna be looking ahead to the ratification process of all of this. That means that there is going to be a vote on behalf of the union. All of the flight attendants are going to be able to weigh in to make sure that the terms of this deal are something that they are good with. Now, as you mentioned, this is something that is kind of a breakthrough. After three full days of the airline, Air Canada, being brought to a screeching halt, and these flight attendants, a critical part of this whole operation, walking off the job, some 10,000 of them doing so, that led to headaches for roughly half a million travelers. Air Canada has 700, roughly, flights a day. It is a huge economic superpower in the country of Canada. So this is something that has a lot of interest from not only people in the airline industry, people who are traveling, but also from the federal government there. We saw that the prime minister weighed in. He was disappointed. It was part of a mounting pressure campaign to really get both sides to come to the table, which apparently happened in the early hours of the morning, Michael. Now, Tom, do we have a sense yet of what's actually in this deal? You know, it's unclear. We can only speculate. We do know what was on the table. For instance, Air Canada had come to the table offering flight attendants a 38% wage increase spread out over four years. The union had said that that was not enough, that they actually needed higher wages in order to keep up with inflation. So that's the what. What were they asking for? And then they were also asking for when they were going to be paid. They were lobbying for being paid during ground stops. That means doing security checks, things of that nature. Currently, as it stands, Air Canada only pays its flight attendants when the doors to the aircraft are closed and the aircraft is in motion. That is the window of time in which these flight attendants were logging hours. There was a growing push to get Air Canada to fall in line with some U.S. carriers that offered pay for, or ground pay, I should say, for when these flights are on the ground. So we'll just have to see if those two things were actually hammered out or if this was a pressure campaign that the union had to concede to the government because the government had said that this was unlawful for this strike to continue. But presumably, they did reach some sort of agreement on those two matters, when they are paid and what they are paid, Michael.
