They accused the administration of failing to protect vulnerable children from abuse in correction facilities. What I found most outrageous was that in a case like this, which came to light on Sölo Street, it should have been stated from the outset that all those responsible would be found and the whole matter would be investigated immediately. And what outrages me most is the cover-up that has been going on for months in this case. The protest was launched by the opposition, led by Peter Magyar, following new allegations involving a juvenile detention centre on Sölo Street. Four staff members were taken into custody, including the former director of the facility, after CCTV footage was released showing him kicking a boy in the head. He's also accused of subjecting minors to physical and sexual abuse, running a prostitution ring and other crimes. Similar cases of abuse of minors in correction centres have previously caused political crisis for Orban's government. On Friday, Orban's main opponent revealed an official report dating from 2021, concluding that over one-fifth of children in public institutions had been victims of abuse. These cases of abuse that came to light were covered up at the government level and the report published by Peter Magyar yesterday proves that the Hungarian government did nothing before or after 2021. Since the scandal came to light, Viktor Orban's government has placed all juvenile detention centres under police supervision and has condemned the violence.
