Drones produced in China currently dominate the market. But using them represents a security risk for Taiwan, which faces rising threats from an increasingly assertive Beijing. In response, Taipei now plans to buy some 50,000 drones over the next two years, all made domestically and without Chinese components. It's a challenge companies like Taiwan's HYTECH are already tackling. We can produce civilian drones and of course we can also produce military drones. With a larger manufacturing base and economy, China has a big head start. But as Beijing's pressure on Taipei mounts, it's companies like these that are helping Taiwan prepare for what could increasingly be an airborne fight for its own survival.
