The crimes occurred after a class at his academy, where Yoo killed 41-year-old Min Cho, then later murdered a child and Min Cho's husband, Stephen Cho, motivated by a desire to steal the couple's BMW.

The judge described Yoo's actions as beyond comprehension and driven by entrenched envy. Despite the presence of multiple CCTV cameras, Yoo did not attempt to hide his crimes. During sentencing, Yoo apologized to the victims' families, and the courtroom was filled with emotion as the verdict was delivered.

Yoo, a Taekwondo instructor, handed out icy poles to his young students after class last February. Minutes later, he murdered the first of his three victims. As 41-year-old Min Cho lay lifeless in the studio's storeroom, Yoo continued to run classes, presenting a seven-year-old child with a new Taekwondo belt. After class, he strangled the child. Then he drove to Min Cho's husband's house, stabbing her husband Stephen to death. Mr Cho was unsuspecting and defenceless. Greed his only motivation, to steal the couple's BMW. Beyond the comprehension and understanding of ordinary people, that such terrible and violent conduct could have been generated by Mr Yoo's apparently entrenched envy. Despite there being eight CCTV cameras inside his Taekwondo academy, Yoo made no attempts to conceal his crimes. I can't express how truly sorry I am, he told the family of his victims. I hope that one day you might be able to find some happiness in your lives. Yoo sat with his head drooped throughout the judgement, clutching a bible. As he was sentenced to life in prison, the victim's family erupted in heavy sobs. Also in tears, legal representatives, members of the police force and the packed public gallery. Outside court, it was too painful for family and friends to speak about the loss of their loved ones. Just thankful that Yoo will never be a free man. Sarah Naven, Ten News.
