Eyewitnesses and survivors report that women unable to pay bribes were taken away, with some subjected to sexual violence, while men faced whipping and robbery. 

The United Nations has condemned the widespread use of sexual violence as a weapon of terror in the region, and aid workers describe being overwhelmed by the scale of suffering. Reports indicate that nine million people in Darfur urgently need humanitarian assistance, and doctors in the last functioning hospitals are struggling to treat the wounded. The UN estimates about 260,000 people remain trapped in al-Fasher after more than 16 months of siege.

We don't know if they were beaten or raped. They threatened us and we got money out. We couldn't sleep from the sounds of men being whipped and robbed nearby. All my brothers are trapped there. I'm living in a state of emotional torture and have depression from the number of cases I have to deal with, to the point where I had a mental breakdown. I direct my blame towards the international community. How can they talk about human rights? Where is the humanity? We need support, yes, either medication, either you can give money to the victims or to the ill patients, but anyhow, we need support.
