It almost feels like the state and federal prosecutors are trying to compete for which case is going to go first. That's absolutely right. We're seeing a very public turf war here, and we don't know the outcome. I suspect that a large portion of the hearing will be dedicated to this timeline. Mangione's hearing comes days after the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, and on the same day, Kirk's suspected killer will appear in court in Utah. Kirk's death, like Thompson's, has ignited conversations and anger around the political violence in this country. You will see prosecutors using this recent assassination of Charlie Kirk as an example of why Luigi Mangione is so dangerous. Federal prosecutors especially will be using this idea of the follow-on murder, the copycat murder, the inspiration. The fact that Luigi Mangione had a rally of supporters behind him, he's become sort of this folk hero for a certain sector of individuals online. Mangione has pleaded not guilty to all of the charges brought against him so far. As far as the federal case is concerned, he's due in court for that in December.
