FOX 5 NY's Linda Schmidt has the latest on the investigation into the deadly Midtown office shooting, including photos of the suicide note left by the suspect.

Authorities in Manhattan are continuing their investigation into a recent mass shooting that resulted in the death of New York City police officer Deidreul Islam and others. The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Shane Tamuro from Las Vegas, left a suicide note referencing chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a brain disease linked to repeated head injuries, and expressed a desire for his brain to be studied after his death. 

The note also mentioned the NFL and a documentary on brain injuries, suggesting Tamuro blamed the league for his condition. Investigators believe Tamuro intended to target the NFL's headquarters but ended up on the wrong floor. The weapon used was an AR-15-style rifle assembled with parts purchased by an associate, who is now being questioned. The city medical examiner's office will determine whether Tamuro's brain will be examined for CTE.

Good evening, I'm Natasha Verma. I'm Antoine Lewis. And tonight for Steve, the NYPD says it's sending a team of detectives to Las Vegas to search the suspect's home. And this as we continue to learn more about the victims, including New York City police officer Deidreul Islam. This is a look at the funeral home in the Bronx. You can see officers there lining up, waiting for his body to arrive. Officer Islam was 36 years old, a three and a half year veteran of the force, and leaves behind two young boys and a wife who is pregnant with their third child. He's a Bangladesh immigrant who loved his New York City family, and the city is in mourning today as we truly remember a hero here. We have team coverage for you tonight as the city mourns the lives lost and the investigation actually is widening. And we begin with Fox 5's Linda Schmidt outside the scene where the mass shooting took place almost 24 hours ago. Linda, what's the scene like? Well, the scene out here right now, I'm going to go ahead and have Mauro Bertoli, our cameraman, push into the front of the building here. First of all, the building remains closed here today. Mauro, go ahead, push into that glass. One of the glass—pieces of glass here totally shattered, and you can see the bullet, where the bullet entered that building using that high-powered rifle just about 24 hours ago. Now, there are bullet holes in that glass. And the mayor also today saying that he is sending, and they are already on the way, two teams to Las Vegas, one to execute a search warrant at the suspect's home and another to go to the gun store, where he legally purchased a revolver back on June 12th. Now, I also have—and you're about to get a look at this—two photos of the suspect's suicide note that I was able to obtain from a law enforcement source. Go ahead. Take a look at this right now. Again, there are two pages. There are several pages to the note, but we have two of them, and we have blacked out names that are listed on the note, as well as a computer password. Now, in the note, if you see at the top there, he talks about CTE, which is a brain disease linked to repeated hits to the head and linked to the NFL, which the mayor and the police commissioner believe was his target. The NFL's headquarters is in this building here at 345 Park Avenue. And then look at the middle of it. He says, quote, "'Study my brain, please. I'm sorry.'" And now we can go ahead and take a look at the second page of the suicide note. He also references a front-line documentary on the NFL and brain injuries. And of course, you remember this scene. Let's go ahead and take a look at this from yesterday. Mayor Adams today saying that the suspect, 27-year-old Shane Tamuro of Las Vegas, had intended to go to the NFL's headquarters, but he got onto the wrong elevator bank, and he ended up on the wrong floor. Police Commissioner Jessica Tish posted a video late this afternoon updating the investigation. Here's what she had to say. The perp in this case, Shane Tamuro, is a Las Vegas resident who most recently worked an overnight security job at the Horseshoe Las Vegas. He was scheduled to appear there last Sunday, but he never showed up to work. A suicide note found in his possession at the scene spoke to a possible motive in the shooting and may explain why he targeted NFL headquarters. In that note, Mr. Tamuro claimed to be suffering from CTE, possibly from playing high school football, and he blamed the NFL. The weapon used, an AR-15-style assault rifle, was assembled by Mr. Tamuro using a lower receiver purchased by an associate. We have located that associate and others, and we'll be questioning him about that purchase. This is part of a larger effort to trace Mr. Tamuro's steps from Las Vegas to New York City. And the mayor today also saying that it will be the city medical examiner's office, as well as the Manhattan district attorney, to determine if his brain will be tested for CTE. Now, I reached out to the M.E.'s office to find out if they plan on doing that. I'm waiting to hear back. Back inside to you.
