Britain, if it acts, would follow a similar move by France last week, and become the second Western power on the U.N. Security Council to do so. French President Emmanuel Macron said on Thursday France would recognize Palestine as a state in territories Israel captured in the 1967 Middle East war. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned Macron's decision, as did U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who deemed it a reward for the Palestinian Hamas militants who govern Gaza and whose devastating attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, triggered the current war.
