The RSF has previously taken control of other key cities in West Kurdufan, and despite announcing a unilateral ceasefire, recent actions suggest the group is determined to expand its territorial control.

The takeover comes after days of intense battles that included the use of drones and heavy artillery. It also follows the RSF's announcement of a unilateral ceasefire and secession of hostilities. The paramilitary group says the army attacked its positions before it launched its attack on Monday. Our forces were able to repel the attack before carrying out a precise military operation that resulted in the liberation of the 22nd Division and the entire city of Baba Nusa. The operation inflicted huge losses on the aggressors in lives and equipment and taking control of advanced weapons. The RSF took control of the state's capital, al-Fula, last year, along with other cities in West Kurdufan. Baba Nusa is significant because the main route to the west of the country runs through it. Losing the town puts the army's bases in south and north Kurdufan at risk of further attacks and will likely complicate its efforts to regain control of territories in Darfur. The fall of Baba Nusa leaves the Sudanese army with only one base in the region, in the oil-rich city of Hijlij. But the RSF has targeted it before.
