At a press conference, Esfura urged patience and restraint. Honduras, I want to make it clear here, above all else, that we must be serious. I am not here to make any proclamations. I am only here to say that we must be patient. All the Honduran people, let the Electoral Council finish its work, and then we will see the reality. Electoral Council President Ana Paula Hall called for calm amid the technical tie and asked for patience as counting continues. Meantime, U.S. President Donald Trump raised doubts over the vote count, alleging that the country's election commission prematurely stopped the tally. Esfura's lead has narrowed significantly since preliminary results were released Sunday evening. The winner, who needs a simple majority, will govern Honduras from 2026 to 2030. President Xiomara Castro and former President Danuel Zelaya called for vigilance while awaiting final results.
