Storms developed on Friday across a large swath of the central U.S., from the Rockies to the Northern Plains.

Meteorologists are tracking a significant weather system bringing severe storms across the north central United States, stretching from Colorado through the Dakotas. The forecast includes damaging winds, large hail, and the potential for flooding rainfall, particularly in areas just east of the I-25 corridor and the high plains.

Storm activity has already affected regions such as Minnesota and Wisconsin, with the intensity of storms decreasing as they move eastward. Severe thunderstorm warnings have been issued for parts of Wyoming and North Dakota, while other areas remain at risk for further severe weather, including power outages due to strong wind gusts.

Strong storms popping up from Colorado to the Dakotas

Big changes are on the way for the north central U.S. Warming air is returning, setting the stage for severe storms from Colorado through the Dakotas with damaging winds and large hail likely as we head into tomorrow. While the plains brace for storms, the northeast is trending dry. Cooler nights are settling in, but a continued lack of rain is increasing wildfire danger across the region. We want to take you now to St. Paul, Minnesota, though. This is where we've been tracking some rain and thunderstorms. Things look to have improved a little bit in St. Paul, but certainly this is not where the worst of things are in Minnesota and now kind of heading into Wisconsin. Yeah, most of the strong storms are now starting to make that transition from Minnesota into Wisconsin right there. But yeah, we will still be watching out for some strong to severe storms possible, even as we head into this evening and as we head into tonight. So here's the latest that we're tracking on radar. I have the lightning on here as well. It kind of lets the stronger storms really pop out here whenever you're taking the 30,000 foot view, right? So overall, what we're going to be watching out for is those strong storms continuing here across parts of Minnesota into Wisconsin. Now this line overall, you can see the intensity of this line has really come down substantially. I would say especially over the last hour or so. When these storms were moving through parts of Minnesota, they were definitely packing a much stronger punch, but we're still going to be watching out for possibly some brief heavy downpours of rain and even a lot of lightning as well. We've been showing you videos of lightning strikes. So definitely not something that you want to have to deal with here as we head into your Friday evening, right? But as we zoom back out, we're going to be watching out for more storms here. We were talking about the storms across the Rockies. We have still some severe storms to watch out for here across parts of the four corner states. You can see some storms. We had some severe storms there in Arizona. As I freeze frame the radar, we currently have a severe storm there in Gila County in Arizona. And I also want to point out that, yes, we're still going to be watching out for the potential of severe storms here with this cluster across parts of Arizona into New Mexico. There will definitely be some severe weather possible there. We also have this one little mini storm right there that's anytime you get a stationary storm that's pretty much on an island by itself, that's definitely going to be capable of producing some severe hail. So we'll be watching out for that potential as well. Going on up the line, we have multiple areas of showers and storms across parts of Colorado, especially Western Colorado. We have some strong storms about to work their way into the heart of the Rockies right there across Colorado. And we also have some storms now developing across parts of Wyoming and North Dakota. So for Weston County in Wyoming, we have a severe thunderstorm warning. We have severe thunderstorm warning in Bowman County there in North Dakota as well. So we'll be keeping you up to date with the latest on that. But as we zoom in, we have other areas that we'll be watching that need to be watched for that potential of severe weather heading into this evening as well. Here's the overall setup of what we were tracking as we head into tonight. There will be the highest potential of severe weather just to the east of the I-25 corridor here across the high plains. So large hail, flooding rainfall, and yes, even damaging winds will be possible as we head into tonight. We could see winds gusting up to 70 miles an hour or so. And as we head into tonight, damaging winds, even power outage potential will be possible heading into early Saturday morning.
