Parts of Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri and Arkansas are on alert for potential flooding from Aug. 27-28.

Severe storms have been reported across several states, including Colorado, Kansas, Arkansas, and Missouri, with heavy rainfall leading to an increased risk of flooding. The heaviest rain is expected in a corridor stretching from Salina, Kansas, to Little Rock, Arkansas, where some areas could see between four and eight inches of rain, and isolated locations may receive up to a foot.

The flooding risk is being driven by moisture from both the Gulf of Mexico and the Pacific, resulting in frequent downpours across the region. Storms are also expected to move toward the central Gulf Coast, though in a weakened state. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely as the potential for significant flooding continues.

Strong storms bring flooding potential from the Plains to the Gulf

some pretty good storms here. We've had some severe weather from Colorado Springs up through Denver, primarily to the west, or I'm sure, excuse me, to the east of the I-25 corridor that we have been tracking. But overall, most of the heavy rainfall will continue here across parts of Kansas into Arkansas primarily, also southwestern parts of Missouri right around Joplin. So this is going to be that band of rainfall that we've primarily been talking about that's going to bring widespread flooding potential here as we head throughout this evening and as we head into tonight. But before we get on to the overall potential for flooding, we also have some strong to severe storms to talk about here in parts of Nevada, just to the west of Reno right there. We've had two separate severe thunderstorm warnings. Now we just have one continuing severe thunderstorm warning. But overall, you can see that over this radar loop, the rainfall hasn't really budged much, hasn't really moved that far. So we will be watching out for flooding potential out here as well. But the highest potential for flooding rainfall that we will be tracking here, at least as we head throughout this evening and as we head throughout tonight, will be across this region, including New Mexico, Colorado, all the way over towards Mississippi and Tennessee. So we will be watching out for flooding potential because of the moisture sources coming in being pulled from the Gulf, also increasing moisture from the Pacific to two separate bodies of water providing the moisture for these frequent downpours across this region. This is as we had in our early parts of Friday morning. The highest potential for flooding rainfall between tonight and tomorrow night is going to be once again across this region from Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, and Arkansas. So from Salina, Kansas to the north, to Little Rock, Arkansas to the south, Joplin in between. We're going to be watching out for ongoing flooding rainfall to continue right now. But the highest potential for flooding rainfall is going to be in that darkest shade of green right there where we are forecasting for widespread four to eight inches of total rainfall. As a matter of fact, our local storm max right there, there could be a rain gauge in that highlighted region that could have up to a foot of total rainfall. So there is going to be some heavy rainfall, possibly some devastating flooding potential here across this region, Jeff, as we head into the weekend. All right, Damian, lots of track there and some of those storms will ultimately make a push down into the central Gulf Coast in a weaker state, but that's ultimately the direction in which they'll be headed.
