Alex de Minaur progressed to the third round of the US Open after defeating Japanese qualifier Shintaro Mochizuki in straight sets, conceding only eight games. De Minaur will next face Daniel Altmaier, who advanced after a five-set win over Stefanos Tsitsipas. 

Other Australians, including Alexei Popyrin, Tristan Schoolkate, Adam Walton, and Maya Joint, were eliminated from the tournament. Daria Kasatkina overcame physical challenges to rally from a third-set deficit and advance, while world number two Iga Swiatek also moved on despite dropping a set.

Popperin's exit was part of a challenging day for Aussie contingent, Tristan Skulkait and Adam Walton were also sent packing along with Maia Joint. Emerging Aussie Daria Kasaktina faced a similar fate, but turned around the third set deficit to rally into the next round.
