They have also highlighted challenges related to the continued presence of Israeli Defense Forces in southern Lebanon, which they argue violates Lebanese sovereignty and UN Resolution 1701. UNIFIL was originally established to oversee the withdrawal of Israeli troops after the 1978 invasion and later expanded its mission following the 2006 conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.

UNIFIL has played a significant role in monitoring the security situation in southern Lebanon for decades.
