Former Socceroos goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer, ex-netball star Laura Geitz and Australian rules Legend Jason Dunstall are among seven inductees to the Sport Australia Hall of Fame.

Seven Australians have been inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame, recognising their outstanding contributions to sport. The inductees include footballers from three different codes, netball champion Laura Geitz, tennis star Leighton Hewitt, Winter Olympic gold medalist Tora Bright, and Socceroos goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer. 

Dr Peter Harcourt, a respected sports medicine practitioner with a four-decade career, was also honoured for his service off the field. The inductees will be formally presented with their honours in a ceremony scheduled for November.

Sporting legends to be inducted into Hall of Fame

They're responsible for some of Australia's greatest sporting moments. Three footballers from three different codes, a star diamond, a two-time Grand Slam champion and a Winter Olympic gold medalist, inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame. Hawthorne champion Jason Dunstall is an Australian football legend, but he never expected to join this esteemed club. Most of the other sports play internationally, they're on the international stage. I certainly never got that opportunity. It's caught me a bit by surprise, put it that way, to be recognised like this. Alongside him today, former Diamonds captain and netball hero Laura Geitz, also inducted. At a very young age I just knew that it was netball. My dad always told me, when you choose to do something with your life, make sure you love it so you don't have to work a day in your life, and that's exactly what it was. Melbourne Storm and Queensland champion Cameron Smith, Davis Cup hero Leighton Hewitt, Winter Olympic gold medalist Tora Bright and Socceroos goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer have also been honoured. Joining them for his achievements off the sporting field is Dr Peter Harcourt, one of Australia's most respected and experienced sports medicine practitioners with a career spanning four decades.
