Downpours and strong winds are heading to the central U.S. AccuWeather's Tony Laubach has more.

Severe weather has re-emerged in the central Plains, with recent storms producing damaging winds and hail, particularly in Kansas. Meteorologist Tony Lawback reported from Perry, Oklahoma, noting that the most significant risks are now shifting toward eastern and southeastern Oklahoma, northwest Arkansas, and potentially northeast Texas.

The primary threats include damaging winds and isolated tornadoes, especially along an outflow boundary left by previous storms. The timing and severity of new storm development will depend on local weather conditions, with the risk expected to be highest in the afternoon and evening. Residents in the affected areas are advised to stay alert for further updates.

Severe weather returns to the central Plains

Meteorologist and storm chaser Tony law back is then in his dreams here out there with a severe weather kicking back up. He joins us live from Perry Oklahoma to discuss today's threat and what your plan is to chase for the day. Wait a minute, Tony. Are you sure it's not Perry florida? Yeah, I know when I set myself up here, I kind of did that on purpose because Perry florida, uh, has been a frequent spot for hurricanes. Fortunately, at least we're not dealing with that here in Perry Oklahoma. Pardon if the service goes out, it was on full. And of course, the minute we go live, the service starts to drop. So hopefully out here in the boonies, we stay with you here through this hit. You see the cows behind me. So very Oklahoma like in this part of the country. And we're gonna be talking about Oklahoma like storms. Unfortunately, as you mentioned, we had the severe weather here over the last couple of days. I found the one severe thunderstorm in the state of Kansas yesterday. This on I 70 in northwest Kansas, mainly producing damaging wind was the big threat with that. We did see a little bit in the way of some hail there north of the interstate, but primarily this was the 60 to 70 mile an hour winds that we saw with this cell as it started to work its way pretty much blew up right over top of me here near the grain field area, creating some very low visibility for travelers on I 70. Even I had to pull over at one point just because the rain was coming down so hard and the wind was blowing that so so strong made visibility very, very difficult at times. But fortunately, those storms weekend throughout the day, we got a second round that developed overnight. That one a little bit more well behaved. We saw a few warnings pop up overnight, including over near the Wichita area. Storms rolled through between two o'clock this morning and even had storms as we rolled in about eight o'clock this morning, and that is going to really be a key piece to the puzzle today in terms of severe weather. Let's show you the map of where we're gonna be looking at things. I'm gonna be targeting the Fort Smith Arkansas area. You see where our moderate risk is here. That orange bubble there across eastern and southeastern Oklahoma into parts of northwest Arkansas in terms of chase terrain, some of the worst areas to chase in the Central Plains. And as you get into the Mississippi Valley, so gonna playing it a little differently than I normally would say here in the open areas near Perry, Oklahoma, as you'll be sticking mainly to some of the heavier run interstates and state and U. S. Highways and basically try to kind of work yourself with the storms as they develop here later today, expecting those storms to fire along the outflow boundary left behind from those storms that we saw last night. That is going to be the key play today, really where we're gonna see the maximum tornado risk is gonna be where that boundary ends up setting up. That could be anywhere along and south of Interstate 40 again. Fort Smith is gonna be the area I'm gonna be kind of working my way here over the next several hours, and I'll be kind of sitting around waiting as those storms start to develop again, depending on how quickly these clouds clear out, temperatures warm up will kind of dictate how early in the afternoon we start to see the development of these thunderstorms. There's gonna be a window is Bernie mentioned of that tornado threat. We could see that again. Maximize there along that outflow boundary early in the afternoon between, say, about two and five. But we expect a lot of storms to fire kind of along that front, and that will start to transition that risk to more damaging wind certainly won't keep the isolated tornadoes out of the question there as we get later into the afternoon and evening as well. So expecting a busy day, probably one of more higher end days we've seen in quite some time. Pretty well a hard time to work in the first full day of fall. But as we get into that transition season, as you know, we talk about it all the time here on the Accuweather Network. That second severe weather season typically gets started about this time of year, and today is gonna be no exception for folks in eastern southeastern Oklahoma and parts of western Arkansas, even down into northeast Texas could see a little bit action later today as well. So expecting a busy day on tap force here across this part of the country, and we'll be bringing updates to you live this afternoon here on the Accuweather Network.
