Netflix has released a four-part documentary series titled 'Sean Combs the Reckoning,' which explores the life and legal troubles of music mogul Sean 'Diddy' Combs. The series includes never-before-seen footage, interviews with key figures from Combs' inner circle, and commentary from jurors involved in his trial for prostitution-related charges.

The documentary, produced by Combs' rival 50 Cent, has drawn criticism from Combs' representatives, who allege unauthorized use of personal footage and label the series a 'shameful hit piece.' Netflix maintains that all footage was obtained legally and that Combs' legal team was offered opportunities to comment but did not respond.

A long-awaited documentary series about the allegations and indictment of Sean Diddy Combs is released today on Netflix. It follows the life of the disgraced music mogul over a lengthy period of time. And the CBC's Griffin Yeager joins me now to discuss this documentary series. Griffin, what are we learning from this doc? Yeah, long-awaited indeed. So this doc is called Sean Combs the Reckoning, released on Netflix today. It's about four parts and it includes never-before-seen footage of Sean Diddy Combs, thrown as his career, but also in the days leading up to his initial indictment. And the producer, important to note, it's his prominent rival, 50 Cent, who's been publicly trolling Sean Diddy Combs for years. The series talks about the life of Combs, how he rose to fame, his rivals, his allies, and how he really got into the position he's in today. You know, cameras really followed him for years, so I'd like to pull up some tape. It's never-before-seen video obtained by Netflix just six days before that initial indictment when he was under federal investigation. Let's have a look. We have to find somebody that'll work with us that has dealt in the dirtiest of dirty business. We're losing. And that's Sean Diddy Combs speaking to one of his lawyers about strategy. Now along with tape like that, the documentary also includes a number of interviews from several folks in Sean Diddy Combs' circle, namely Capricorn Clark, his former assistant and creative director at Bad Boy, Kirk Burrows, the co-founder of Bad Boy Entertainment. Several artists, but also interesting to note, this is the first time that we're hearing from two of the jurors who sat on the jury that found him guilty of those two counts of prostitution-of transportation for purpose of prostitution, rather. When one juror was asked in the documentary whether they thought Sean Combs was a violent person, they said, quote, you can say he's a bad person, but domestic violence was not one of the charges. Now interesting to hear that because the judge ruled that the evidence and claims put out by both the prosecution and the defense presented during the trial called for a more substantial sentence than he would typically give for charges related to the Mann Act. He was sentenced to 50 months in prison that he's currently serving for those prostitution-related charges in connection with drug-fueled sex marathons called freak-offs, and he was found not guilty on counts of racketeering and sex trafficking. And what has the response been to this documentary so far? It was quick. Before the documentary was even released, we received a statement from a representative from Sean Diddy Combs' team. I'd like to pull that up in a second here. They say that Netflix's, quote, so-called documentary is a shameful hit piece. They say the teaser confirms Netflix relied on stolen footage that was never authorized for release, that Combs has been amassing that footage since he was 19 to tell his story in his own way, and that it's unfair and illegal for Netflix to misappropriate that work. And beyond the legal issues, they call this a breach of trust. Now I reached out to Netflix for a response to that statement. If we can pull that one up as well. They pointed me to a quote from the film's director, who says that they obtained the footage legally and have the necessary rights, and that they also reached out to Sean Combs' legal team for an interview and a comment multiple times, but never heard back. So lots of interest in this documentary, lots to talk about here. Sure is. All right, Griffin. Thank you.
