Now, this afternoon, the Rabbitohs have issued a statement and said that they are aware of the allegations against Smith, and the NRL integrity unit has been informed. But the question really is, when was the integrity unit informed, given that Smith did play last week? The NRL does have the ability to sideline players, particularly those that are facing serious charges, but it's not yet known whether that will happen in this particular case. The Rabbitohs have one game left in the season. These charges don't come out of the balloon. It was known and reported that Queensland police had spoken to Smith earlier this month as part of an ongoing investigation. We now have greater clarity as to what that investigation was about, but in what these charges exactly relate to, we're likely going to have to wait until Smith faces court, which is on September 18.
