Following his arrest, law enforcement discovered firearms in his possession, which is a federal offense for individuals without legal immigration status. The Department of Homeland Security also alleged that Roberts had a history of criminal conduct, including previous weapons and narcotics charges, as well as a restraining order issued against him in 2023.

Further scrutiny has been placed on the hiring process, with the school board announcing legal action against the search firm responsible for recommending Roberts, citing inadequate vetting. Allegations have also surfaced that Roberts falsified parts of his resume, with discrepancies found in his claimed academic credentials and awards. Despite these developments, Roberts' attorneys have urged the public to withhold judgment as legal proceedings continue.

The school board announced they are suing the search firm that recommended Ian Roberts. The firm failed its duty to properly vet candidates. Ian Roberts should have never been presented as a finalist. Last Friday, after Roberts was arrested by federal immigration agents, the public was informed that he had overstayed a student visa issued in 1999, and rallies were held in support of the immigrant from Guyana. Even if everything they said is true, it does not mean that he should be kidnapped and deported. But less than a week later, there is now a criminal charge. Law enforcement say they found one gun in his school-issued vehicle and three additional firearms in his home. It is a federal offense to possess firearms without legal immigration status. As the Department of Homeland Security went even further yesterday, alleging Roberts had a quote, long record of criminal conduct, including two previous weapons charges and a narcotics charge. There was also a restraining order issued against Roberts in 2023. When he applied, I'm assuming they checked all his credentials. At a town hall Thursday, even supporters wanted answers. Where was the ball dropped at? That one is going to require us to get through a lot of litigation before we can answer that. There are multiple accusations that Roberts falsified his resume. According to documents obtained by the Associated Press, he did not have a doctorate from Morgan State University, but from Trident International, an online for-profit institution. MIT says they have no record of him attending for an MBA program, and George Washington University has no record of a principal of the year award. Still, Roberts' attorneys are urging the public to reserve judgment. Immigration law in the United States is a very complex set of facts.
