Tens of thousands of protesters across the nation united this weekend in a demand for action on what many are calling a national emergency: domestic violence. Rallies, numbering 17, swept across the country with a unified message emphasizing consent and the urgent need to address men's violence. The chants of "No more violence, no more hate. And no more silence" echoed through the streets, embodying the collective call for immediate action against domestic and gender-based violence.

Men, women, and children came together, urging for everyone, especially men, to be part of the solution. Participants highlighted the importance of stepping up and addressing the issue within their circles, acknowledging the widespread impact of domestic and gender-based violence. Additionally, personal stories of suffering and survival were shared, stressing the dire consequences if immediate actions are not taken. In Sydney alone, more than 5,000 individuals marched, driven by the alarming statistic that one woman is killed every four days due to intimate partner violence, with at least 26 women having died this year under such circumstances.

Many protesters advocated for immediate, short-term solutions, including the proposal that men posing a physical risk should be required to wear tracking devices. This suggestion is seen as a way to make the justice system more effective in preventing further violence. In Ballarat, there was a strong call for the Federal Government to officially recognize the issue as a national emergency, especially in light of nine more women having been murdered in the two weeks following April 12.

The spotlight also turned to Adelaide, where the focus was on the Prime Minister's response to the crisis. With the Prime Minister scheduled to attend a rally in Canberra, expectations are high regarding his commitment to funding and policy measures aimed at combating violence against women. He has expressed intentions to leverage the National Cabinet's power to address this pervasive issue.

Since we last came together two weeks ago on the 12th of April nine more women have been murdered and unfortunately it happens everywhere. We have in this country an epidemic of male violence and we all need to step up. Say it once, say it again, there's no excuse for violent men. In Adelaide the focus falling sharply on the Prime Minister to act. He will attend tomorrow's rally in Canberra. I want to see what he's going to fund, how much he's going to fund and what he really promises to do.
