Under a new law passed by the Knesset, Israel's parliament, on April 1st, the Prime Minister has been granted the authority to close down Al Jazeera's operations. This law targets a broad array of activities associated with the network, from the accessibility of its website within Israel, including any means of accessing or entering the site, to the prohibition of devices used for news gathering by Al Jazeera personnel. The law applies regardless of whether the website's servers are located inside or outside of Israel.

Furthermore, the ban extends to the confiscation of devices used in content provision for Al Jazeera, indicating a significant crackdown on the network’s ability to function within Israel. This includes penalties for internet service providers that host the Al Jazeera website, encompassing potential fines for any entity involved in providing access to aljazeera.net. The measure effectively eliminates Al Jazeera's physical presence in Israel by banning its offices and the operation of any facilities in the country.

Al Jazeera reporter Imran Khan, reporting from Occupied East Jerusalem, emphasized the comprehensive scope of the ban, which affects every aspect of the network's operations in Israel. He noted the uncertainty surrounding the duration of the ban, which remains in effect across the state of Israel.

The website is now inaccessible. They're also banning any device used for providing content. That includes my mobile phone. If I use that to do any kind of news gathering, then the Israelis can simply confiscate it. Our internet access provider, the guy that simply hosts aljazeera.net, is also in danger of being fined if they host the website. The Al Jazeera TV channel, completely banned. Transmission by any kind of content provider is also banned. And holding offices or operating them in the territory of Israel by the channel. Also, once again, any devices used to provide content for the channel can be taken away by the Israelis. It's a wide-ranging ban. We don't know how long it will be in place for.
