While filming takes place, Abbott remains incarcerated at Kazarina Prison, with his legal team arguing that changes to escape legislation occurred after his sentence should have expired. His family continues to support his claims of false imprisonment and is prepared to pursue further legal appeals if necessary. The series, currently titled 'Lamb,' has drawn international attention to both Abbott's story and the ongoing court battle.

Capturing the life of a man on the run, Brendan James Abbott, one of Australia's most notorious criminals, now the centre of a new streaming series filmed at Scarborough Beach today. While in court, the real-life story was playing out as the postcard bandit continues a bold bid for freedom. Abbott's family supporting his claim, he's been falsely imprisoned for almost 10 years. How has this whole process been for you? Long but obviously it's a lot longer for dad than it is for me. So he's got high hopes though, he's just waiting to see what happens then. Abbott has been in prison or on the run since the 1980s, a checkered history committing a string of robberies, earning his nickname after claims he posed for photos and sent them to police while hiding in plain sight, sparking nationwide manhunts and escaping two maximum security prisons in WA and Queensland. The now 63 year old serving the remainder of his sentence inside Kazarina Prison. His lawyers argue by the time legislation had been introduced relating to prison escapes, his sentence had expired. Today the judge considered extra submissions and is expected to hand down a decision in a matter of weeks. The story capturing worldwide attention, WA the backdrop for the new production with the working title Lamb. In the meantime Abbott's family says he won't give up on his fight for freedom. If our decisions don't come back what they want and they'll go to another court after that appeals court and then from there maybe up to the higher courts but we'll see how we go from there.
