Two Queensland police opened fire on a man who allegedly ambushed them in a station driveway. Detectives believe he ambushed them after waiting in a nearby carpark before ramming their vehicles and drawing a knife.

Two police officers at the Maroochydore police station were allegedly ambushed when a white Mercedes rammed their unmarked squad car as they arrived. The driver, reportedly armed with a knife, confronted the officers, prompting them to fire their weapons before their supervisor subdued the suspect with a taser. 

Police state the incident was unprovoked and lasted less than 20 seconds. The suspect, a 53-year-old man from Yamundi, has been charged with dangerous driving, trespass, and endangering the lives of police. Investigators are working to determine the motive for the attack.

A white Mercedes rammed their unmarked squad car as it pulled into the Maroochydore police station on the Sunshine Coast. There was nothing leading up to it. It was completely out of the blue. It will be alleged that the driver of the white Mercedes got out of the vehicle and was holding a knife. Which was then allegedly brandished at the officers. They drew their guns and fired five times but missed. Their supervisor heard the shots and unleashed a taser which took the accused attacker down. The whole ordeal over in less than 20 seconds. Police say the man had been loitering in the car park across the road for some time but has no links to the officers involved. Detectives are now working to determine a motive for the alleged driveway attack. Police will look at whether the man identifies as a sovereign citizen or has a hatred of police.
